These differ from the rules that hold nationally — they are the ones that catch out drivers who studied another state’s handbook.
1. Maryland imposes on each licensee under 21 an alcohol restriction that prohibits driving while:
- AVisibly intoxicated only
- BHaving a BAC of 0.08 or more only
- Having alcohol in the licensee's blood
- DHaving a BAC of 0.05 or more only
Answer: Having alcohol in the licensee's blood. Transportation Article §16-113(b) requires the Administration to impose on each licensee under the age of 21 years an alcohol restriction that prohibits driving or attempting to drive while having alcohol in the licensee's blood.

2. In Maryland, "under the influence of alcohol per se" means an alcohol concentration of:
- A0.10 or more
- B0.02 or more
- C0.05 or more
- 0.08 or more
Answer: 0.08 or more. Maryland law defines "under the influence of alcohol per se" as having an alcohol concentration at the time of testing of 0.08 or more as measured by grams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood or grams of alcohol per 210 liters of breath; §21-902 prohibits driving while under the influence of alcohol per se.

3. A Maryland provisional license issued to an applicant under 18 generally allows unsupervised driving only between:
- ASunrise and sunset
- B6 a.m. and 10 p.m.
- 5 a.m. and 12 midnight
- D7 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Answer: 5 a.m. and 12 midnight. Transportation Article §16-113 limits the holder of a provisional license (under 18) to driving unsupervised only between the hours of 5 a.m. and 12 midnight, with listed exceptions for work, school, and supervised driving after midnight.
